RMG | Rockford Manufacturing Group

RMG produces the most efficient, reliable and cost effective production Inline Wire Drawing machinery available to support the very foundations of manufacturing; the fastener industries, the wire products industries, the construction industries and the steel wire and rod industries.

Although most their In Line Wire Drawers are used with steel wire and rod, from .218”  (5.5mm) through 1.75” (45mm) diameter, RMG designs and produces custom built machinery to process a wide variety of base metal and alloyed wires; stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloys (brass, bronze, beryllium, etc.), titanium, silver, lead (solder), tin, nickel alloys (Inconel, Monel, etc.), nickel, etc.

The RMG and Lewis Machine names are synonymous with wire Straightening and Cutting. Their machines can be found in wire product shops in most of the western world. Known for their robustness, many of the Lewis machines built over the last 100 years are still operating. The easy to set up RMG machines are durable too. RMG’s serial number 93101, built in 1993, was recently in our shop for a minor refurbishment and update.

RMG can provide a wide variety of passive turntable configurations and features to meet your specific production requirements. These features include custom baskets sizes, multiple coil carriers and spiders (both fixed and adjustable), pneumatic brakes, Tanglegard sensors, elevated bases, dual rotating passive turntables (pictured), etc.  If you need it we can make it.  Contact your RMG Sales representative or a RMG Sales Engineers to assist you in sizing and selecting the proper turntable for your situation.

The RMG Mechanical Descaler, available in three frame sizes. These robust machines are designed for years of trouble free operation and use carbide wear surfaces on the rollers and husky sealed bearing assemblies to ensure the longest possible life. Available in either right-to-left or left-to-right material flow the RMG Descaler can be provided as a free standing unit or for mounting with/on an appropriately sized in line drawer.

In-line wire drawing is the very definition of Lean and Green Manufacturing, by processing the wire as it is consumed, without generating material waste. We developed Variable Frequency Drive’s to replace the less efficient hydraulic drive units. The new VF powered RMG wire drawers use 50% less electrical power compared to older Fastener Engineers or RMG hydraulic wire drawers. These electrical savings can also be achieved by retrofitting hydraulic drive units with the newer RMG drive technology.

Rockford Manufacturing Group Inc. (RMG) manufacturers two lines of straighten and cut machines, RMG and Lewis Machine, to ensure we have the right machine for your application.  RMG machines are known for their ease of set up and use and for introducing many innovative features; single offset arbors, Clutchless cutting technology, micro fine adjustable length control, separate arbor speed and feed systems, etc.  Novice operators can learn to set up, adjust and operate an RMG machine with an eight hour hands-on training session.  These machines are best suited to an application where ease of set-up and operation is required, while still achieving highly accurate and repeatable straightness and length control on low carbon steel wire, is desired.  RMG machines incorporate the latest innovations of safety and performance at a reasonable price.

RMG offers Three recoiler models, the REC375, REC625 and REC750, for our customers who want to realize the numerous benefits of drawing and recoiling small quantities of wire at their site without a great investment in specialized equipment.

An integrated drawing line consisting of an RMG inline capstan drawer, a payoff device (turntable) and a powered recoiler lets any manufacturer produce exactly the size and quantity of the wire they need for production, thereby reducing coil inventory, eliminating waste and achieving greater production flexibility. Most of the additional quality benefits of in line wire drawing; better dimensional control, improved surface finish, greater coil-to-coil diameter consistency, etc. are also realized when using an inline drawer/recoiler line.

RMG recoilers are designed to create coils with weights from hundreds of pounds (kilograms) to 4000 pounds (8800kgs) so the operator can produce exactly the amount of calibrated wire needed for a small production run, or size and calibrate an entire coil. No more must they buy several full coils of different diameters only to produce a few hundred pounds of each size product.

Using information on your materials, sizes and production runs, we can help you calculate the significant savings in inventory and handling that you can achieve by drawing and recoiling.
